These are the only places that I know of now ready unless I name Lawrenceville, which is ready.

Miss Canedy has consented to return to her place. I quote a sentence from yours of the 13th that has a word that I do not understand: "Of course Childs and Carter are counted in already and the Southern teacher (Jones) you mentioned". I cannot recall anything about Jones". Please enlighten me.

Now I am going to make a proposition to you which I believe will be for your advantage. It is that you employ Davis, the writer of the enclosed letter, as teacher and agent in that field, with head quarters at West Point. Your teachers will need guiding to their posts (some of them) they will have their troubles, some of them may be failures, all will need instructing and correcting. West Point ought to have a school house built and a good school, with Davis as its teacher, and female teachers at the other places. Then Davis in his Saturdays and Sundays, and occasionally taking time away from his work could establish other schools, in that oystering region where the people are as well off as anywhere in Va. and so create and govern an educational district. I know of several places there that want working up, and where I will help build school houses. I am alone - have no local officers, shall need information from an intelligent source, as you also will, and your teachers will need a head and a guide.

Davis a colored man, graduated of a college in the Barbados, of whom I hear that he is very intelligent, sensible, modest, reliable. His letters speak well for him. I believe this is just the thing for you to do. He can teach and do this work.

Yours Truly
