Silver City...A New Point of View!
[---]
[[image]][[/image]]Discovered

Silver City has long been known as a "best kept secret." It is being discovered. El Paso residents have for years escaped the heat and urban stress in this area. In recent years, Tucson began to escape the crowds of the White mountains north of Phoenix. Former residents had always looked forward to this area for their retirement.

In the last 3 years Silver City has been the focus of 3 books placing it in the top 1%. Norman Ford in his The 50 Healthiest Places to Live and Retire gave us a high rating in "LOW RISK LIFE-STYLE" primarily due to CLIMATE, ELEVATION, TERRAIN, and lack of URBAN STRESS.

Then, Norman Crampton cited us in his The 100 Best Small Towns in America, as one of those places where the American dream lives on. John Villani has designated us as one of the 100 best in his The 100 Best Small Art Towns in America as he looks at quality of life and the impact of the arts.

Articles in the L.A. Times and major magazines have beckoned to many desiring a fresh, invigorating new life.

Listen to what comes to mind when you think of the words and phrases: low risk life-style, climate, terrain, solitude, lack of urban stress, arts, birding hot spot, 3 million acres of national forest and wilderness, fishing, exotic game, arts and culture, 4-year university, multicultural ranches, regional hospital, the old west, history, golfing year-round, etc.

These word pictures create visions of a great life-style, relaxation, a chance to unwind, to explore, to start over to do the things you've always wanted.

Silver City has excellent shopping, serving a 4-county market area. Yet, within 2-3 hours are the services of 2 metropolitan areas. Mexico is less than 2 hours away. The university and the art community provide many opportunities to expand one's horizons.

Silver City is surrounded by an amazing number of attractions within a 60 mile drive. Its historic downtown was one of the first and most successful Main Street programs in the state. The Victorian architecture can be seen in the Silver City Museum. The Western New Mexico University Museum houses the largest permanent collection of Mimbreno pottery and artifacts. Historic Pinos Altos, where gold was first discovered, is 10 minutes away with the Hearst Church, Buckhorn Saloon/Opera House, Fort Cobre, and Pinos Altos Museum.

Don't forget the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, the 3.3 million acre Gila National Forest and Wilderness, the City of Rocks State Park, and The Catwalk. Then add the 5 nearby fishing lakes, the Gila River and other rivers and streams. These areas make us known as a birder hot spot, as well as for fishing, hunting, rockhounding, etc.
