Dear Miss Kilbourne:

I was delighted to read in the September 19 issue of CHEMICAL AND ENGINEERING NEWS of your being recognized by the American Chemical Society with a James Bryant Conant Award in High School Chemistry Teaching. As one who for five years toiled in the vineyards of chemical education and who still feels a close professional affinity to his colleagues in that field, may I extend my warmest congratulations to you. As a token of esteem, I am having sent to you under separate cover the new Silver Burdett chemistry program for the high school which, if you do not already use, I think you will find an important addition to your professional library.

Again, sincerest best wishes on your achievement and may continued success greet all your endeavors.

Cordially,

Dear: Miss Kilbourne:

Hearty congratulations on your winning of the James Bryant Conant Award in High School Chemistry Teaching.

As a former chemistry teacher of many years standing, it always makes me deeply happy to note that secondary school people are justly rewarded for their contributions to the field of science education.

In my day, it was only the college and university people who stood any chance at all of recognition. This has bothered me for many years.

Through the National Science Teachers Association and other professional groups, I've tried to rectify the situation.

I am extremely happy that the Manufacturing Chemists' Association and E. I. Du Pont de Nemours Co., Inc. are making strides in rewarding those who give so richly on a level of education which for so many years, has gone unrecognized.

Once again, my hearty congratulations and best wishes for many more years of contribution. Kindest personal regards.

Sincerely,
