This agreement made this 10th day of August 1869. between Joseph Rivers and Clarborne Bailey, of the town of Lovettsville and State of Virginia of the first part, and R.M. Manly Superintendent of Education of the City of Richmond and State aforesaid, of the second part:- Witnesseth deal for and in consideration of the sum of $200. The parties of the first part agree with the party of the second part to build or cause to be built, finish and complete or cause the same to be done, a frame house for the use of colored children, thirty by forty feet, on or by the day of October 1869 Said house is to be erected as aforesaid from good material and in a workman like manner.
Said parties of the first part find themselves to have the lot of ground at or near the town of Lovettsville on which they are to erect the said schoolhouse, properly conveyed to not less than five nor more than seven competent, reliable and trustworthy men and their successors, who shall, when satisfied by the Circuit Court of this County at its coming October Term, hold the same as trustees for the use of colored children who from time to time may seek or desire the same for educational purposes.
The party of the second part agree for and in consideration of the premises to furnish $200
