They are willing to give a part of the same lot, upon which to build a school house for their children,

Gen, the people here are awakened to the all important subject of having their children educated. They are impressed with the truth that there should be a house for this specific purpose; therefore they are not willing to use their house of worship as a regular school house ("or for school purposes")

Having begun it themselves, they desire to finish it; and then dedicate it to the worship and service, of their great Redeemer.

These people are temperate, and industrious-they appeal to you; through me (their teacher) for a school house separate from their meeting house.
Gen., when you in your wisdom, and kindness, grant this favor, you will shower a blessing upon these people, and this great Country too, which will never be forgotten,

I, Sir, discover in the pupils under my training faculties of mind which if cultivated properly, will raise them to positions of great usefulness and respectibility.

A house 24, by 30 feet, made in the plainest way, without bathing and plastering (for this people will do) but with battens will not cost more than 500 dol.

I am yours respectfully;
A.M. Newman, a pupil of Rev. S.B. Gregory late President of Wayland Seminary
Washington DC.

Gen, will you please write soon?
