Dear folks,

We are indeed on the way to Chicago. It is not such a joyful occasion, however, because Jack's mother is having an operation today on a lump in her breast. She didn't tell grandpa or much of anybody about it. We will find out upon arrival what happened and tag it on the letter. Jim & Shirley are to prepare the turkey dinner at their new home and bring it over. If the operation is minor Marguerite should be home then.

It is hard to take the time out from our various activities to spend 4 1/2 days away. The soil science part of my government work went fast in some places but it is very slow near the end, so I couldn't quite finish before we left today. I had the suggestions of the man next door for a couple hours last night; [[strikethrough]]but[[/strikethrough]] in that and related fields good dictionaries do not exist, no I am constantly using my Russian soil science text for explanation of terms, and then not getting them all. Physics work is easier, I can work at about $12.50 an hour quite regularly in that.
