GENERAL ORDERS } QUARTERMASTER GENERAL'S OFFICE,
No. 65.        } WASHINGTON, D.C., August 11, 
                 1866.

An appropriation having been made "for the support of the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 1866," officers of the Quartermaster's Department will not pay, from the appropriation for the Quartermaster's Department, accounts originating from and after the 1st day of July, 1866, in connection with the Bureau.  These instructions are to apply likewise to the transportation or mileage accounts of officers and other persons traveling under the orders of that Bureau; to accounts for postage and telegrams on the business of that Bureau; and to other expenses heretofore paid by the Quartermaster's Department, but which are now covered by the appropriation above referred to.  Officers of the army properly assigned to duty in the Freedmen's Bureau will, however, receive from the Quartermaster's Department their allowances of quarters and fuel, forage for their authorized horses, straw for servants, and stationery allowed by paragraph 1130, Revised Army Regulations, when not supplied by their respective Departments.
