In Sumpter County Geo“ W Hayes has been acting Agent. but reassigned in the 14th inst since which time a charge has been prepared against him of embezzlement of $1000 from Freedmen[[?]] in that County 
No direct proof has been received yet but the necessary steps have been taken to fully investigate the matter. There should be a salaried Agent appointed for Sumpter County as it is large and populous. 
Choctaw County has not given any special complaints not because there has not been sufficient ground but because there is no one in that County to represent the Bureau. there are but few Union men there and they will soone leave unless protection that the B.R.F & AL. affords is given them. There should be an Agent appointed for that County and no better man than Luther R Smith can be found for the place if he will accept it. The Circuit Court is in session in Marengo County, the jurors are not drawn in accordance with general order No 53. The case has been reported to HeadQuarters but no answer received yet

There never has been a time since the surrender when the planters have been better satisfied with the laboring class than at present. The only reasonable ground for complaint is that the women.
