"Soup Kitchens"

During the month supplies of Bread and Soup were received daily, to Three hundred and eight four (384) persons (Two hundred and thirty (23) white and One hundred and fifty four (154) Colored Persons)

The total number who received this relief for the month ending August 31st 1868 was Then thousand and seven (10,007) - Six thousand and eight (60008) whites and Three thousand nine hundred and ninety nine (3999) Colored Persons.) At a cost to the Government of Six hundred and sixty one and 15/100 Dollars as at an average cost of Seven (7) cents per day to each adult person.
