There has been very few complaints made by the Freedmen of injustice the last months, all of which I have referred to the civil courts.
The Civil Courts seem to be willing to give Justice to the colored people in this Sub Dist.
There has been but one Freedmen convicted in the Circuit Court now in session at Talladega, out of some tactics that were tried before it
There has been a great falling off of the Schools in this Sub District for the reason that the teachers that were teaching have closed their Schools, some on account of not being paid for their services, and that the pupils have been taken away from school by their parents to pick cotton in the fields, and others have returned to the Normal School  at Talladega which commenced its session on the 5th day of Oct and has at this time but fifty pupils, with an average attendance of forty three pupils.
The colored people seem anxious to have a free school in Talladega, not
