$16.00 per month each, one Carpenter wholly occupied at the Hospital $25 per month  If not  carefully watched these collection's increase rapidly, and to a considerable extent.  The people once getting located there, it is difficult to remove them.  However since the issue of rations has been stopped, except at Hospitals, and no provisions having been made for the support of actual dependants by counties' the Bureau will have to assume the care of this class, but efforts should be made to prevent aggregations in Camps and Colonies. 

Surgeon Chas G. Kipp the Chief Medical Officer of the State makes frequent inspections of the hospitals and this department under his control has been successfully managed.

Schools

Not so much as been done for schools in this State, as in some others; but under the active superintendence of Mr. Buckley the educational interest of the freedmen is being advanced.
In June fifty five teachers were employed, the number of scholars in attendance was thirty three hundred and thirty three.  All the schools were not reopened at the time of my inspection an increased number will be commenced during the present month.
