FEMINIST ART EDUCATION AT THE WOMAN'S BUILDING

Alternative education is much talked about lately. Some say the traditional educational structure is collapsing. Some say alternative institutions are folding left and right. Others contend that vocational education is the future of education. I, and others like myself, do not find much that serves my purpose in life in any traditional or alternative or vocational institution. I am a woman.

I was educated in an alternative institution, an experimental college, and found that it was a new form for perpetuating male world-view and thought. My feminist interpretation, my experience as a woman, and especially my experiences as a lesbian were not valued. My feeling was that in order to "make it", to be respected in that milieu, I had to alienate myself more and more from my real experiences.
