Building events; readings by Adrienne Rich, Jill Johnston, Audre Lorde, lectures by Charlotte Bunch, Mary Daly, Arlene Raven, women's films and video tapes, concerts, feminist theater. The Extension Program, which offers evening and weekend classes for women, has made it possible for women to learn auto mechanics, Spanish, astrology and develop skills and interests which supplement their educational program.

As a woman, male art forms do not speak to me. Seen mostly as commodity, value is derived from uniqueness and form, while content and communication are secondary. Romanticization of artists isolates them from society, perpetuating myths that creators are self-destructive, self-indulgent, poor and starving, and do not contribute to their communities. Museums and commercial galleries further alienate the public from art, make it separate from daily life. Art and art appreciation have become liesure time activities for the well educated persons who understand form, subtleties, the "meaning of art".

In college I was so alienated from my creative expression even I didn't know what my art meant. "Good art" was impersonal, visual form. I felt crazy. At the Woman's Building we are creating new art forms and ways of looking at art. We have broadened our concept of art to include administration, organizing, research; acknowledging the creative aspects of women's work.
