CHARLOTTE W. HARMON 817 Levering Avenue Apt. 4 Los Angeles, California 90024 October 25, 1979 Jan Nightingale The Woman's Building 1727 N. Spring Street Los Angeles, CA 90012 Dear Jan: I have had a long discussion with Nan Hunt, and at her suggestion I am writing you to say I'would very much appreciate your consideration of my application as a workshop leader of a class in "Writing Nonfiction from a Woman's Viewpoint" for the Winter schedule of Writers Events. I understand you are in charge of scheduling for the classes. I have taught for three years in Los Angeles. I have taught for the Writer's Program at UCLA Extension since 1978. I currently teach classes in "Nonfiction Fundamentals" and "Workshop: Writing the Non-fiction Book Package." I feel strongly that the next decade will see Los Angeles writers, including women writers, come into prominence on the national publishing scene. I would very much like to join with these influential women by offering a writing workshop at the Woman's Building. I am currently a Contributing Editor on the staff at Los Angeles Magazine. I have held that position for nine years. I was Southern California Correspondent to Publishers Weekly for four years. I have completed a novel, WOMEN DANCING, which deals with the problems and joys of single woman who goes through her pregnancy alone. The novel has a definite feminist viewpoint. In part, I teach by discussion in class of published nonfiction writing. THE WARRIOR WOMAN by Maxine Hong Kingston is an example of my material, which emphasizes women writers. I am a founding member of the Women's National Book Association's Los Angeles chapter. I have been an officer of the organization for the past four years. It is my understanding that you require a class description. Upon receipt of the forms I will be happy to complete this for you. I'll call you when you have looked over this application. Thank you for your interest. Sincerely yours, [[signature]]Ginger Harmon[[/signature]] Charlotte W. ("Ginger") Harmon
