Dear Kate,

On behalf of the Woman's Building and artist/mothers everywhere I want to thank you for your support and participation in our up-coming program, "Artists Who Are Mothers" on May 7, 1988. Your generous donation of your services as a panelist has allowed us to make this workshop available to the widest possible audience.

The day as planned is:
10-10:45 "Mother Art" Presentation
11-12:30 Guest Artist Panel (Kate Braverman, Ann Page, Betye Saar, Barbara Smith, Bonnie Thompson Norman, and Linda Vallejo.)
12:30-1:30 Brown Bag lunch with video, "Things Your Mother Never Told you," by Rhyena Halpern.
1:30-3:00 Group Dialogue and Closing Art Affirmation Project.

I'd like to make sure that each panelist speaks for no more than 10 minutes, to ensure the audience some time for questions and response. In planning your presentation, I'd like to ask you to keep in mind the following questions:

1. In your experience, how have your dual roles as "mother" and artist" complemented or conflicted with each other?
2. What have been the biggest problems you've encountered?
3. What sources of support have you found (mate, friends, childcare, other mothers, other artists?)
4. What are your survival strategies?
5. Has your art changed, and if so, how?
6. Has being a mother affected the "career" aspect of your being an artist?

I know that the workshop will be a tremendous success and a great deal of the advance excitement is due to our stellar panel of guest artists. We all look forward to working with you and to a unique collaborative day of sharing and caring.

Yours, in sisterhood,
