Women with different backgrounds often hold different world views [[strikethrough]] and have both [[/strikethrough]] but frequently have similar [[strikethrough]] and dissimilar [[/strikethrough]] tasks ahead of them. With an active audience, I think the weekend can provide a basis for an appreciation of [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] those differences and a knowledge of things shared providing a foundation for working partnerships within the women's movement. There will also be an examination of the organizational techniques used by women - some are male-modeled and [[strikethrough]] some are unique [[/strikethrough]] others are not. These techniques, as well as the effectiveness of [[strikethrough]] women organizing, have [[/strikethrough]] these techniques are generally not [[strikethrough]] been widely acknowledged [[/strikethrough]] well known. Given the current economic/political climate, women will need [[strikethrough]] all possible [[/strikethrough]] increased access to any and all organizational skills. The weekend is designed to [[strikethrough]] may [[/strikethrough]] have some practical, [[strikethrough]] practicable [[/strikethrough]] results in addition to being a source of solidarity and pride.

[[strikethrough]] The scheduled participants have scholarly qualifications and grass roots vocabulary [[/strikethrough]] Sessions [[strikethrough]] are [[/strikethrough]] will be participatory, with 2 to 5 fifteen minute [[strikethrough]] talks [[/strikethrough]] presentations followed by forty-five minute discussion.
[[note]] (underline) -> Because It is of extreme importance that the audience be as active, challenging and diverse as possible, [[/note]] you can [[strikethrough]] then [[/strikethrough]] understand the need for extensive publicity. We welcome nay assistance you may give to ensure this diversity. I have sent press packets to the L.A. Times, the Herald Examiner, the Reader, the LA Weekly, La Opinion, Jessie Mae Beavers at the Sentinel (she is a friend of Mary Jane Hewitt's so I am hoping for an interview with her prior to the conference), Channel Two's "Two on the Town", and the Daily News in the Valley; we've sent out approximately 6,000 brochures to book stores, women's centers, schools, community organizations [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] & newsletters, and to individuals. Public Service Announcements will go out to all the LA area radio stations shortly.

I hope the conference will be feisty, (I hope it) will extend feminism to those who have felt little affinity for the women's movement, and (I hope it) will offer solid means of co-operation between the ethnic, racial and class communities of [[strikethrough]] which women are a part [[/strikethrough]] Los Angeles. I offer these notes to you [[strikethrough]] as [[/strikethrough]] in hopes that they assuage some of your fears of an overly academic event. Also please know are eager for any comments or assistance you might offer. [[strikethrough]] Please be confident that we are eager for any assistance you might offer. [[/strikethrough]]

Sincerely, KS
