SEMINAR IN CONTEMPORARY FEMINIST IDEAS AND ART

Women's Studies: Some Contemporary Feminist Ideas, Part I is a seminar taught by two highly respected lecturers/teachers in the field -- Bonnie Engdahl, Ph.D. and Sondra Hale, Ph.D. It will start Saturday, February 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and meet for 5 sessions at the Woman's Building, 1727 N. Spring St. in downtown L.A. The cost for the seminar is $40 plus reading materials. For registration information, call 213-221-6161. 
   
Women's Studies: Some Contemporary Feminist Ideas is for those women interested in recent thinking about language, imagery, and women's culture that underlies art practice and choices, It will involve presentations and discussions of psychoanalytic thought, class analysis, and French feminisms. 

Bonnie Engdahl is on the Critical Studies faculty at CalArts, where she teaches women's studies, literature, and interdisciplinary arts courses. She also teaches a lesbian literature seminar at UCLA. She holds a Ph.D. in literature and is a psychoanalyst in private practice. Sondra Hale, who holds a Ph.D. in anthropology, is a lecturer in women's studies at Cal State Long Beach, where she has taught courses in feminist theory and women and the arts. She has just finished editing a book on women's art and culture.

The Woman's Building is a public center dedicated to the presentation of women's creative accomplishments. Founded in 1973, it is the oldest independent feminist cultural center in the world.
