SALON SERIES AT THE WOMAN'S BUILDING

The Woman's Building continues the monthly series of the West Coast Women's Salon. The Salon addresses a variety of interest in the arts, politics, history, literature, spirituality, and health. All Salons begin at 8:00 pm, on the first Thursday of the month.

Oral historian, Sherna Gluck, leads the May 1 Salon on " Mothers and Daughters: Personal Herstories." Feminist analysis will be used to explore and describe our relationships with our own mothers. Be beginning the process of recording our own mother-daughter " herstories ", we will learn hands-on tips for overcoming methodological problems in such documentation.

Sherna Berger Gluck teaches in the Women's Studies Program at California State University, Long Beach and also coordinates the Oral History Resource Center. Originally trained in sociology, Gluck began her work in women's history in 1972 when she co-founded the Feminist History Research project and undertook oral history interviews with the rank and file suffragists. Those interviews resulted in the publication of From Parlor to Prison. Dr. Gluck's most recent work has focused on women who worked in the Southern California aircraft industry during World War 11. her book Rosie the Riveter Revisited: Women, the War and Social Change, will be published in the Spring of 1987. 

The cost for each Salon is $4 for non-members and $3 for members. The Woman's Building is located at 1727 N. Spring Street in Downtown Los Angeles. The Woman's Building is a public center dedicated to the presentation of women's creative accomplishments. For more information, call 213/221-6161.
