JULIO MITCHEL: from the series KID GLOVES, black and white photograph, 1979, at San Francisco Camerawork. With a sympathetic eye and the investigative intrepidness of a photojournalist, photographer Julio Mitchel captures moments of vulnerability, confusion and tenderness in the lives of his subjects, who range from the juvenile boxers of New York City and the gunmen of Northern Ireland to erotically entwined couples. The events and emotions he documents are often private or even illicit; to be able to capture them takes a rare talent.
