Dear Mother,

Had a restful weekend. I met a woman in the drug store who turned out to be a wonderful new friend. After some conversation she invited me to dinner. She lives just a few blocks away. She is a pianist and cellist and painter, has had two husbands (both dead) with Ph. D's, likes the same kind of books and music that I do, etc. We went to the movies on Sunday and she gave me dinner again. She has made almost $100,000 on the stock market through the advice of friends. We will get along very well together, I think, & it's nice to know someone who lives so close. She is an antique lover and once ran an antique store (my neighborhood is full of them). Well, that's about all.

Love,
Doris
