Battle Harbour
October 17th, 1923

Dr L M Waugh

Dear Sir

I received your letter some time ago I intended answering it but like a good many other things kept putting it off until now so you must excuse my carelessness.

Glad to hear you were both OK & getting towards your home town hope you found everything A1 when you arrived. I cannot understand who swiped your bottle here as I did not see or taste a drop after you left it was [[Dr?]] mean anyhow as you know we refused nobody that night. I may find them out yet.

Mr Broucher has told me he spoke to Dr Grenfell about the Amber Jack I had written you on that subject.
Since then the Amber Jack left St Anthony with Mrs Knapp & another nurse on board bringing them to Battle Harbor crossing the straits she was very leaky I had to put in Henley Dr. I guess she is getting old & wants a good caulking all over. A newer boat would be more sure.

I am leaving for Brigus on the 20th I will be home all winter should I hear of a boat suitable will see her & let you know.

We have had summer weather since the 20th of September no sign of snow or frost. Hospital all closed Dr & Mrs Knapp gone to the USA & the winter nurse gone up the Bay for the winter. Fishery all over [[?]]
