Dr. Waugh Talks About Adventures in Labrador

Dr. Leuman M. Waugh, Pelham dental specialist gave a stirring talk on Labrador to the Pelham Post, 50 American Legion, at the Pelham Manor village Hall last Thursday night.
High waves, snow and Eskimos, who smelled of whale-oil. All this, and more, thrilled and delighted the legionaries as Dr. Waugh narrated his thrilling experiences in the land of Labrador. With his son and two other men, the doctor said, he had investigated health and living conditions among the Eskimos in Labrador for the past five years in a small craft of their own manufacture which drew only 29 inches of water when loaded.
In examining the teeth of over 78 Eskimos, the Doctor found only seven cavities, which proves either that the Eskimos have exceptionally fine teeth, or the food they eat is not detrimental to the enamel. Some of the excellent motion pictures were shot of vistas never before scanned by the eyes of white emn, and portrayed vivid storms at sea, towering waves menacing their tiny craft as it balanced precariously between the sheer cliff walls of the long, indented fiords.
