Department of the Interior
Bureau of Education, Alaska Division
Alaska Native School, Medical, and Reindeer Service

Stebbins, via St. Michael
October 22, 1929.

Public Health Service,
Washington, D.C.

Gentlemen:
Stebbins village lies on the Bering Sea shore of St. Michael island. It has a population of 120 Eskimos who do need the services of a doctor and a dentist and I urgently request that when the North-land, or whatever U.S. P.H.S. craft visits this northern territory next summer that this village be included in its itinerary.

There is little in the line of surgical and medical equipment at the school which the Bureau of Education maintains so a portable operating table and a dental chair with accessories would be needed. Dr. Waugh, dentist aboard the Northern-land, deserves unstinted praise for the creditable work he did and his kindly attitude toward these northern natives.

May I hear from the department regarding this request?

Very truly, (Mrs) ELNORA G. BENAWA
Teacher in Charge.
