Dr. Leuman M. Waugh, associate dean of the School of Dental and Oral Surgery of Columbia University, has commissioned by the U.S. Public Service to conduct an expedition of dental research and relief to the [[cross outed]] primitive [[/crossed  out]] aboriginal Alaskan Eskimo, it was announced at the University yesterday.

Dr. Waugh has received from President Hoover a commission as Dental Surgeon in the Health Service Reserve, and has been detailed to the Coast Guard Service with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

He will leave Seattle on July 6, going the Cutter "Northland" at Unalaska, and carrying with him the first x-ray instrument and complete dental equipment that has ever penetrated the northern reaches of the continent, where the Eskimo still dwells in his  [[crossed out]] primitive [[/crossed out]] aboriginal state.

Leaving the Cutter at Point Barrow, Dr. Waugh [[crossed out]] will [[crossed out]] hopes to travel eastward with a powered boat and crew along the south coast of the Arctic to MacKenzie Bay, where he hopes to discover tribes of Eskimos who had no contact except with occasional tramp fur traders.
