TREASURY DEPARTMENT

THE PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE

WASHINGTON
April 16, 1930

Dr. L. M. Waugh
576 5th Avenue
New York City, N. Y.

Dear Dr. Waugh:

I am glad to tell you that I have just received word that funds will be available for your transportation in June, although the Coast Guard advised me that they did not believe you could reach the Northland at Unalaska unless you left Seattle before the 5th of June.

All of the supplies which we were able to get together are now on their way to Seattle and will be picked up there by the Northland.

If you will advise me as soon as possible as to when you expect to leave I will see to it that orders are prepared in advance so that there won't be the rush at the last minute which we experienced last year. You will be called to active duty the same as last year and so far as I am able to assure you I think we can safely say that your return transportation will be paid by the Public Health Service.

I have just been going over your article which you sent me and want to compliment you most heartily on it. It was a splendid article and I am enthusiastic about it. I have taken the liberty however, of substituting a few paragraphs in place of the first three paragraphs in your introduction, and with this substitution I have sent it over to our editing department for thorough revision with the request that it be published. After it is revised, in case it needs revision, if you care to see it before publication, please advise me. The substitution which I made for the first three paragraphs of the introduction is enclosed herewith.

Hoping to hear from you at an early date and to know for sure that you will be with us this year, I am

Very sincerely yours,
