Dr. L. M. Waugh
576 5th Avenue
New York City, N. Y.

Dear Dr. Waugh:

Your letter of May 6 arrived yesterday. I want to congratulate you again on the splendid manner in which you gave your lecture at Baltimore, and assure you that you must not feel that you left out anything of importance with reference to my assistance for your assignment. I do not personally, ever care for such mention with reference to myself, but I do like to have the Public Health Service receive as much credit and honor as possible.

I wish it were possible that you could take some pictures of the dental equipment on board, but I know that is extremely difficult owing to the arrangement of it.

Tuesday morning I called the Coast Guard and told them about our conversation with reference to a series of pictures for the Coast Guard. They are extremely interested and told me that they would, if at all possible, purchase 2500 or 3000 feet of film. I gave them the dimensions of the film and how it should be packed, etc., and I believe they are getting out bids immediately requesting that the film be sent to the Northwest Division, Seattle, the same as the film which we are purchasing. They appreciate the fact that you are able to take some splendid pictures and will be glad to get the film of interesting incidents regarding the northern cruise. At first they hesitated quite a bit, stating that for the last several months all films that they had authorized were talking films. They stated that Western Electric made a portable camera with talking movie tone attachment, and that these people also made a portable projector which was very satisfactory. At first they stated that they would furnish the straight panchromatic film as requested. I assume it would be extremely difficult to take the movie tone pictures.

With kindest personal regards, I am

Sincerely yours,

C. T. Messner.

The Admiral will also write a letter to Capt. Jones.
