We're talking about cowboy boots or work boots and what they cost and you notice there's different kinds of cowboy boots. Wady I think has some that are a little different than the rest of um; maybe you guys can talk a little bit about, uh, the value of good equipment.
[00:40:24]

{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
[00:40:27]
Well I think in our country you can still, you can still buy a good work boot, uh, hopefully 60 to 75 dollars. But if you get into some of the more exotic leathers like uh alligator or water buffalo, or you can go up to two or three hundred.
[00:40:43]

[00:40:45]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}

A lot of cowboys...
[00:40:46]

{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
I gave 30 dollars to this little player a pair of black boots somewhere.

[00:40:52]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 3"}
I gave two hundred and seventy-five for these [[laughter]], and uh, but they're made to measure, now a guys gotta a figure okay, I'm going to be a cowboy today, and I'm going to be one tomorrow, and five years from now. I wear, uh, shop-made made boots, I feel for my protection, it fits my foot well, it's not uncomfortable, and uh I would say your average cowboy is going to get over a hundred and fifty dollars for a pair of boots. Nowadays, you're going to give a hundred and fifty dollars for a pair of good working riding boots.
[00:41:31]

[00:41:32]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
Yeah, this pair right now, I think it is about a hundred and thirty dollars. When I bought them, they were about a hundred and ten or something like that, and they never had, never did get them broke to foot, I threatened to throw them in the creek and then wear 'um until they shaped up I've had . I've had to broke up a few times, and I'm in the process of getting a pair, gonna get a pair made. I've been talking to everyone, and they uh they uh the ones that I'd like to have, blujer [[?]]. I think would run close to 300 hundred dollars.

{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
It seems like these days, there are more and more custom hat makers, custom boot makers, uhm, Gus Severe here[[?]] here is one of the finest saddle makers in the country. Uh, do you think there's more craft going on now, then there has been, or, how's that looked over the years to you?
[00:42:21]

[00:42:22]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
Uh leather craft you mean?
[00:42:23]

[00:42:23]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
Leather hats...
[00:42:25]

[00:42:25]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 2"}
Uh yeah, since John Travolta produced the, the uh, what was the name of that movie? Urban Cowboy, why boots and hat prices have increased and productions also increased. In our country, right after that movie, you could buy a cowboy hat in many service stations. [[laughter]] So you can blame John for the high prices of boots and hats. [[laughter]]
[00:42:54]

[00:42:56]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 1"}
That's cultural conservation. Young man, what's fun about being a cowboy? These guys are going to have to answer.
Another Speaker: You wanna tell them?
[00:43:08]

[00:43:10]
{SPEAKER name="Speaker 3"}You're a little bit young to know about that [[laughter]]

[00:43:11]

But I think anybody likes to work with livestock, particularly if you like to ride a horse, and er handy at it. For some people it's not plum safe to ride a horse and work cattle. But if you can do it, it's a real efficient way to handle the situation. Part of the country where I live there's some cowboys and some farmers and the farmers all go afoot and I'll see them out there when it's 100 above running around with their tongue hanging out and havin' heart attacks and stuff like that. I've got 4 good legs packin' me around all the time, it's a lot easier and a lot more fun. And some things about it, if you like to ride and like to rope, and like to fool with livestock all the time, it's fun for me it always has been.

Ya know I was born and raised on a ranch. My folks had a place and so I grew up around cowboys and it's all I ever knew. I knew the reality of the life probably at a younger age than a lot of folks that just decide they want to become oneĀ and wait until they're working age. But still the American Public has made a myth out of us as they have out of so many heroes, sailors, so forth ya know. Movies have a brought a lot of romanticism to the job. And uh heroes that the movies made are my heroes too. I just it is just as good as anybody else. I love to watch a good western movie but
