Gordonsville Va. Sept. 17, 1865

Rev. R. M. Manley

My dear Sir:

I have commenced operations here today. found no trouble in procuring schoolroom &c. The negroes are as anxious to learn to read & write as their former masters are not to have them.

Shall open an evening school as soon as possible.

I shall go to Fredericksburg next. Capt. Crandon thinks they are next most needy at that place. Orange C.H & Charlotte will come early on the programme of my operations. I find the inhabitants quite as cordial as I anticipated. Capt. Crandon is doing all he can for the cause-

Yrs most Truly - E. P. Frost
