Rev. R. M. Manly.
Richmond.

My very dear Sir.
You recollect our talk about the Superintendendcy of Schools for this State. Well. I have been thinking that in case you go out with your regiment. that perhaps the thing can be managed in some way or other. So I can take your place. I would like the position exceedingly well. Now, as the saying is- "There are a good many holes to a skimmer" if there is a hole. I can crawl into. I suppose your influence would be all of should want to secure me the position. In case you should "a bandon the past". and then is a possibility of my securing it. any assistance you could render me in this direction will be gratefully acknowledged and the favor requited whenever an opportunity shall offer.
Yours Truly S K Whiting
