Dear Sir
Yours of the 20th is recd. The application as you suggest will be made out as soon as possible & sent to Gen Brown (for Petersburg & other places) I am just making preparations to raise friends for the Association - & expect to be so engaged until the 1st of November. After that - shall be ready for something else. I am truly glad at the success of your efforts among the colored people, both on their account & on ours. Much could be done in this direction if in the hands of discreet persons. I will show your letter to Mr Shaw

Inclosed please find Mr Estes
