Dear Mr. Manly, 
Miss Stevenson tells me that [[crossed out]]she[[/crossed out]] Mr. Chapin has written to you [[strikethrough]] [[??]] [[strikethrough]] directing by order of the Committee on Teachers that the dwelling house at the Bakery should be used by the teachers of the Colored Schools. At the Soldiers' Memorial Society we have supposed all along that we were to have the dwelling [[strikethrough]] a [[strikethrough]] for the teachers of the White schools,- proposing to send five, beside Mr & Mrs. Washburn and their little boy. You know what the General's intentions are,- and I have stated to the Freedmen's Committee here that I shall gladly leave the decision to you as to which of the sub of teachers shall occupy the house
