Mr. R. M. Manly,
Richmond Va.

Dear Sir,
I have your favors about insurance. I deemed it right to inquire about insuring in a N.Y. office and find that the Home, Continental and others have agencies with you just as the London and Liverpool have. It seems to me that it would be better to effect insurance there, than here; wherefore if you are not burned up have the policy issued to [[strikethrough]]the[[/strikethrough]] Mr. F.G. Shaw President New York Branch Freedman's Union Commission and I will send you a check to pay the premium as yet I do not know that you have not taken out a policy, and fear that you have not.

Respectfully
Your obdt Servt

I could not get Ins'd here without a diagram of the property, and the neighborhood; showing the contiguity of buildings, the nature of the materials whereof they are built &c. &c. which I have not received.
