Colored meeting held on the 18th of May 1867 at Floyd C.H. Va. David Akers was called to the chair and Rev Geo. T. Lyle (white) acted as secretary. Following Preamble and resolutions wereread, explained and adopted.
 
Whereas we the colored citizens of Floyd County Virginia assembled together on this the 18th day of May 1867 recognize great benefits and blessings in education and esteem in one of our first duties to obtain them for our children: Therefore we resolve.

1 To erect a school house within or as near as practicable to the former corporate limits of Jacksonville.
