he said Dr. Bachus was at present waiting to find just such a person and I appeared to be, to fill a place in Virginia where a Teacher & Pastor united in one person was wanted.
Dr. Bachus is from home for 10 days, and Mr. Kennedy gave your tome Sir, that I might write you at once on the subject.
I have for years sustained the labours of Teacher & Pastor in the Same Room, vissiting the people in the evenings and preaching on the Lords Day, besides other religious meetings during the week. The only assistance I had was from my wife who taught plain and ornamental needlework and assisted me generally in teaching.
That my heart has been drawn towards Virginia for some time past, I can satisfy you from letters now in my possession, one from the Illustrious poet H.W. Longfellow, and one which was returned to me from Boston Mass on the 27th August, and sent by me to Rev. J.W. Parker D.D. of that city on the 15th of last March. On telling D. Lawson about this unopened ret. letter, he said D. Parker is now in Augusta, and that was probably the reason why my letter did not find him.
