Mr general Howard

Dear Sir

Since I have left the Wayland Seminary School I have got up a School for the colored people down here in Mecklenburg county Virginia in which they promise to pay in about 50 cents or [[per]] month or [[per]] head. Dear Sir they are not able to pay that or mount. They want their Children educated. I am the best I can to teach them. I am not able to then teach at that rate for I have a family to suport and I can get along well with them, and have myself to suport all while I am teaching them. I would thank you for help in these three months while I am teaching of them. Rev SB Gregory are my teacher. I am out for vacation for three months
