Sir:
In reply to your communication of the 11th inst. I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner to say that those who have already expressed a desire to enter your Institution, and have furnished the necessary recommendations &c. should be admitted, but that it is his opinion no others should be encouraged to come until it is seen whether the number now and about to be admitted has not reached the limit already fixed,- seventy five-.
The Assistant Commissioner is clearly of opinion that those children living in localities where there are no advantages for education should be preferred. Six, or more students, will be sent from this place, on the six o'clock train this P.M.

The account of James Rogers for repairing a school house at Louisville, Tenn. has been received. It will be paid, but I desire you as soon as convenient to inspect the house to see that it has been repaired or built by the parties named and in the manner described.
Please remind Mr Shade that he is not authorized to build or repair School houses on behalf of this Bureau, and remember that no such accounts will be paid hereafter, except in persuance of authority from this office. Very respectfully,

Your communication of the 2nd inst. addressed to Rev. D. Burt, Supt. of Education of this Bureau for the State of Tennessee, has been referred to this office.  In reply thereto, I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner to say that from Jany 1st 1868 a rent of sixty dollars ($60.00) per month will be paid by this Bureau on the school buildings belonging to the freedpeople of Clarksville, Tenn.
