I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner to forward herewith inclosed your re-appointment as an Agent in the Bureau, at a salary of One Hundred and twenty five dollars ($125.00) per month. No oath will be required under this appointment the one on file in this office being sufficient.

Sir:
I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner Bvt. Major Genl. Wm P. Carlin, To transmit herewith your appointment as Agent of this Bureau and to say that if accept the same you will returned the inclosed oath of office - subscribed and sworn to before a duly appointed authorized civil officer having custody of a seal.
The Assistant Commissioner has learned through the Supt. of Education of this Bureau for this state, Rev. Mr. Burt, of the valuable assistance rendered

by you in establishing a school for freedmen at Winchester and against the opposition and even persecution of the congregation of which you have been pastor. The knowledge of these facts, together with the earnest recommendation of the Rev. Mr. Burt, induced him to obtain your appointment, hoping to thereby sustain you against the bigoted opposition of your people. and to encourage you in your efforts to spread the light of knowledge with [[?]] blessings among a people whose dark ignorance is only too painfully apparent to all Christian minds.
