Liberia from Savannah in May. There are nine persons instead of eight in their two families. Days mother having a husband as well as children. Day seems much pleased with the prospect of getting away and desires to go in the first vessel -

Jane Washington, colored, with three children, one a boy 14 years old, and one a girl 13 years old, and one two years old desires to go with Days party and they ask me to write to you one the subject. Will you please tell me what to say to Jane Washington. The others are determined to go. I really hope General Howard will give transportation to these people as far as Savannah. They say they are unable to procure employment here. Indeed it is manifest that there must be an enormous emigration from the country of the colored people. Colored mechanics and laborers are being displaced by white ones whenever it can be done. If you wish I will write to General Howard on the subject
