I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of April 28th, 1868, requesting authority to assist the Freedmens School at Rogersville, Hawkins County Tenn. and in reply thereto to inform you that the request is approved and authority is hereby given to assist said school to the amount of $300.00.

I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated April 18th. 1868, requesting that $140.00 be appropriated for the Freedmens' Church and School at Jordan Springs, Tenn, and in reply thereto to inform you, that if the colored people at Jordan Springs have a free title to the land, aid to the amount of $140.00 will be given to complete the building now being erected.
