Sir: I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner to acknowledge of your letter of the 18th inst. setting forth the claims of Robert Bryant "Ex. Federal Soldier" and in reply thereto, do inform you that the matter has been referred to the Asst-Commissioner of Kentucky for his action. Sir: During a statement in the newspapers to the effect that the case against the Rebel Gun Factory had been disposed by U.S. Court and the property returned to the stockholders. I will thank you for any information you may be able to give concerning the disposition of the case. I would like also to know the legal effect of the decision in regard to the time the stockholders can have possession - if the reported decision to be correct. As you are doubtless aware, this property has been for two years or more in possession of the Bureau. If any thing has occurred to determine you not to accept of this transportation, please notify me immediately, so that the Vouchers may be returned to Washington.
