Carlin U.S.A. to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated July 6th. 1868. and in reply thereto to inform you that the Bureau has no authority to furnish Transportation to teachers going home. Vouchers for your salary for the month of June 1868 were forwarded to you yesterday July 7th 1868 - by the Disbursing Officer, and upon your signing and returning the same a check for the amount will be forwarded you. There being no appropriation made for schools beyond the 1st of July 1868 no promise can be made that your salary will be paid to the 16th of said month - but efforts will be made to that effect. Carlin, U.S.A. to acknowledge receipt of your communication of June 30th (ult) requesting aid in completing a school house for the colored people at Brownsville, Tenn. and to say in reply that he cannot promise the aid requested, now, as the Bureau will cease on the 16th inst. unless Congress shall pass an Act to continue it.
