I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner, Bvt. Major Genl. W. P. Carlin, U.S.A. to call your attention to the fact that your leave of absence for ten (10) days expired on the 3rd instant, consequently upon reporting this A.M. you were eight (8) days over your time.  
You will please explain in writing the cause of your delay.

Referring to your communication of May 19, 1968. making inquires regarding the whereabouts of the following named colored soldiers, viz. William Jones, late pvt. Co. C. 100, U.S.C.T. Newton Jones, late pvt. Co. 12th U.S.C.T. and Robert Courtley, late pvt. Co. A 12th. U.S.C.T. and returned to you by endorsement from this office dated June 5th 1868, I have the honor to inform you further, that diligent inquiry and search have made for them in each Sub=District in this State, but without success.

I am directed by the Assistant Commissioner Bvt. Major Genl. W. P. Carlin, U.S.A. to call your attention to a Circular Letter from this Office, dated July 11, 1868, calling for a report of murders committed in  your Sub District from July 1st 1867 to July 1st 1868; and to say that he desires you to make up and forward the report called for with the least possible delay  Your report should be here if possible by the 20th instant, as it is necessary to consolidate the reports and forward the same to Genl. Thomas by the 25th.
