Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
HEAD QUARTERS 2nd SUB-DIVISION, VIRGINIA,
Petersburg, Va., August 19th 1868.

Dear Sir
The colored men of Prince George - about four miles from here ask assistance in sustaining their school I told
them some time since I make some effort for themselves after which they might hope for some assistance from you if absolutely necessary They have employed a competent white teacher, made provision for her board and are trying to collect enough to pay her But they cannot succeed and I have made application for authority to rent a building for them They will I believe have a school of about 40 or 50 pupils If you can send them to the amount of $7.00 per month and some primary books I believe they will have one of the most desirable small schools in the State
Very respectfully Yours
