Dear Sir

In reply to your communication of the 27th inst written at the request of General Brown, as to whether I am opposing the elections of Jacob Cohn &c.

Please state to the General that my opposition politically to Jacob Cohn has for its cause the simple fact of his being a nonresident of the district in which he claims to have secured the nomination for the State Senate, and this too at informal meetings called together under his direction, organized and controlled for his and their purposes by those turn disorganizers the Northern brothers, whose political discomfiture in this congressional district, [[?]] to the appearance of Jacob Cohn on the political stage. General Brown ardently desired Jacob Cohn made eligible and complied with the understanding of Simon Brown and the nomination of the Republicans of the district will need not fear opposition
