Rev. R.M. Manly
Supt of Education

Dear Sir

School teachers for freedmen are greatly needed in this county. We have a School house at Meherrin Depot and one near Lunenburg C.H. that with some repairs will be ready for occupancy by the 1st of Oct. next. At these places about one hundred scholars each would attend school. There are three other places in the county where from fifty to seventy-five scholars would attend. The freedmen are able to pay tuition sufficient to pay the board of teachers and procure their own books but for the salaries of the teachers we shall have to look for aid and assistance from Freedmens Civil Societies Two experienced white teachers with four colored or of less experience white teachers would supply the wants
