Yesterday I met Miss Preston and took her to the boarding place I had engaged (Southern) found her bed not made up and dirt in profusion - A lot of children at the table Potatoe Peel all over it dirt and confusion. Dinner bowl Bread- ham and cabbage in butter Duck- took her away at once and to Mr Thomes, the northern family of whom I wrote you- He has not yet built and rents part of a brick house rest occupied by the owners a widow Daughter and son. They attempted to dictate [[home?]] and make him send [[blank]] P away. The Daughter would be disgraced by having a "nigger" Teacher in the house- home wife infants boys home- "If they stay Miss P will stay with them. It looked so stormy at first that I told I wouldn't let her stay to be subjected to petty persecution
