King Wm Court House Va.
October 24th 1868

Dear Sir

You were no doubt surprised at the receipt of a letter to "Dear Charley" Accidents will happen. I wrote hurriedly to him, kept it unsealed & wrote you at West Point the enclosed letter placing both in envelopes at same time & directing wrong. As I was in Mr Thorne's house at the time it can hardly be laid to the spirits - Her Miss Ps school will start very soon now, as there has been sickness in both northern families & a lady is dying in the one where she does not board. The delay is welcomed by them.

Yours of October 12th received to day. Bristy, the leading colored man near the school house in New Kent will board a colored teacher. His house is only about 300 yds from school House. The school House is promised to me by 28th of this month, but it is nearly 20 miles from here * I have been so busy I could not go over.
