King W3 Court House Va
November 14th 1866

Dear sir,

I named Thursday the 18th as the day for Teacher to come. I see Thursday comes on the 19th. I meant Thursday anyway. Miss Preston thinks the Colored people ought in some instances to have shoes given their children, and states that in some cases children are and will be kept away from home. If needed in her vicinity Miss Scott will also need. but even if [[strikethrough]] also [[/strikethrough]]needed it seems to me liable to such abuse such a premise on lying and deception of various kinds that I seriously question whether even if the Bureau gives clothes this year it will be wise. There is too much of the idea already that the Bureau is bound to help them They must learn sometime to stand on their own feet. Even if barefooted and the quicker the better. I simply give these as my ideas. Perhaps you will think her rights and I wrong I though I would write and ask your advice before I wrote officially. Miss P. has 3- scholars, school flourishing over 30 more to come at the least.

Respectfully your friend,
Charles Goodyear
