Rev R.M. Manley
Dear Sir
I am going to write you a begging letter & however weak the appeal may the cause merit [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] the strongest possible. The negroes free have a lot bought and paid for. They have the lumber partly bought paid for & hauled. They have $40 left in their Treasury. I have a addressed a Circular letter to every Church in my own native city irrespective of Sect begging money for them I expect to get something now wont you give me $300. If you want Do that let me beg for $200. And at any rate give me the rent of my present building for one year Via $150s.
While $600 has been given in Christiansburg only half the size & a great deal in very many places too numerous to mention nothing has been done
