We have now passed the time (two years) within which we are at liberty to use 40 per cent of our principal, & have not used it. Henceforth we are limited to the interest, which is $60,000 per annum. This is to continue unchanged for thirty years. We shall therefore be obliged to curtail our operations; that is, to give less aid, or give it for a shorter time, or to a smaller number of places. I do not regret it; for if we had spent 40 per cent, we should have been reduced now to $36,000 a year, - too small a sum to do much good in chosen states.

I send the check for $1000.

Truly yours,
B. Sears,
General Agent.
